India’s first rank in the International Physics Olympiad 2026

Hello, how are you all, hope you are well. In today's blog we will know about India’s first rank in the International Physics Olympiad 2026 , July 13, 2026

This year, the 56th International Physics Olympiad had taken place with around 85 countries and 381 students participating in the program which was hosted in Colombia. The Olympiad took place between the 5th and 12th of July. But the highlights of this Olympiad would be the number one ranking of India in the program. India had matched against China, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan and Kazakhstan and ranked first.

The Olympiad consisted of two 5 hour long theoretical tests that spread across all the major and minor topics of physics in them. Other than this there was also a practical exam conducted; with the Indian students giving the very best performance in both types of tests. The Indian team consisted of 5 students that had come back with gold medals. Marking 2026 as the second time India had won gold medals after the IPhO of 2018 in which also 5 gold medals were won.

The International Physics Olympiad is an annual Olympiad competition mainly for high school students. The series of the Olympiad has been going since 1967 with the first being held in Warsaw, Poland. Every year a total of 5 students are selected to represent their nation in this series of test and compete with other best physics students of the world.

The competition has showcased the great knowledge and efforts of the Indian students in their studies of even in the toughest of subjects such as Physics and mathematics. This moment of winning twice as the first is a great proud winning moment for the nation of India. The students had shown how their efforts and educational institutions had given them an opportunity to show their talents and also win glory to themselves, their families and to their country.
