India has achieved a new milestone with the launch of Vikram 1

At noon on 18th of July, 2026, precisely at 12:05 pm, the private space sector company Skyroot has launched Vikram 1 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre of Sriharikota with the valuable cooperation of ISRO. The space vehicle Vikram 1 is named after the Father of the Indian Space Programme – Vikram Sarabhai Ji.

The vision of India behind this mission is to establish a low-cost, efficient private orbital satellite launcher for various domestic and international companies or missions to place their satellites at whatever orbital point they require, and to enable easier, more flexible transportation to various space stations. In other words, the various companies of the world can buy the services of Vikram 1 to launch their satellites into low Earth orbit and place them at any unique orbital point for their research purposes or communication purposes.

Skyroot has made a special orbital vehicle as a unique vehicle that is around 24 meters long and has a 4-stage vehicle launcher with power from 3 fuel stages and can carry around 350kg of load in the Low Earth Orbits of approximately 450km. The Prime Minister of India congratulated the Skyroot Company on their vision and aiding in the rapid development of India in outer space missions. He even started the popular hashtag “#IndiawithVikram1” to showcase India's support for the mission on the platform of “X”.

This mission arises as a substitute for the USA-made Space Orbital Carrier in 2025. This allows other nations an opportunity and option to carry on their missions with greater ease. This also benefits the amount of influence India has on the outer space ecosystem and shows the potential India carries in future missions and projects of the space.
