Kerala native Kaziah Liz Mejo becomes the first ever winner from the state who outshines 52 contestants in Jaipur to qualify for India's participation in the 75th Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico.

19 year-old Kaziah Liz Mejo has become the first-ever Kerala contestant to be crowned Miss Universe India, 2026. The law student and model was crowned by Manika Vishwakarma. Tamil Nadu’s Vaishnavi Gannesh was declared as the first runner up and Gujarat’s Anushri Satavlekar as the second runner up. Kaziah was born in Mavelikkara, in Alappuzha district of Kerala.

With a mix of a classical background, multicultural lineage, artistic inclination, he has been doing Indian classical dance more than ten years and can speak, sing and act. Despite her youth, Kaziah is a veteran of competition having previously secured first runner-up in 2025 at Miss Teen International, before winning Miss Universe Kerala at this year's state level.

What really distinguished the 19-year-old in the closing minutes was her creamy cool response to the judge’s final question asking her to describe the “sound of silence” in her life. Kaziah said to her, real silence is the “deep, serene stillness that I feel beneath my skin right before I step on a stage. Kaziah impressed a top-pageantry jury panel of former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen and pageantry veterans Urvashi Rautela and Celina Jaitley with this.

She will represent India at the 75th Miss Universe pageant this November in another attempt to bring the coveted international crown back to her home country.
