Expanded Social Security Administration list of Compassionate Allowances gets patients with serious, debilitating diagnoses from months to days.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is now adding 14 new severe medical conditions to its Compassionate Allowances (CAL) list, which brings the fast-track approval list to 314 qualifying diagnoses. The new medical conditions include rare genetic disorders, complex neurological conditions and aggressive cancers. The CAL list identifies medical situations that obviously meet the U.S. Social Security’s lofty disability standards and can reduce application wait times from a couple of months or even years down to just a few days.

The newly added conditions encompass a spectrum of serious conditions that have a profound impact on quality of life and life expectancy. New organizations include several new forms of aggressive cancers such as primary cardiac sarcoma, hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma, and uveal melanoma with metastases, as well as many of the rare inborn genetic diseases of childhoods such as Aicardi syndrome, Bohring-Opitz syndrome, and Lafora disease.
