Even as the Indian team captain Elina Baig put her name in the playing XV, Rawat was whisked from the stands to the field. The very next thing she understood was that she was being handed the playing XI ball. One surprising announcement at a time.

Last-minute fired-knife inclusion of Rawat, from a tactical point of view, signifies that the Indian management is deciding to change tack. Iberian all-round Radha Yadav was the sensible chip off the old block, but Captain on her 200th T20I, Harmanpreet Kaur made the more attacking leap and chose the leg-spinner. For a T20 game, in the present day, wrist-spinners are currently a huge advantage to play because of the wickets and the variations in pace provided. That Rawat was so rapidly brought from regional domestic grounds to the world's attention may say something about the changing strengths of the sport in India. If the India-A routes and the Women's Premier League (WPL) are rigorous enough, and high-stakes enough, Rawat's coolness in her ODI debut, despite being called up to the national squad somewhat unexpectedly and at the last minute, demonstrates that modern sportspeople and athletes have to be ready, wili[?]ly and whole-heartedly, at any moment, to leap from the fringe into the center, from the periphery directly into the center stage of the world arena of competition.
